It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
